In March 2009 Ian Brown wrote an analysis article looking at the lessons learned from the attempted theft of £229 million from Sumitomo Mitsui Bank in London. The article was published by Complinet and is reproduced here by kind permission of Complinet. The article looks at collusive dishonesty between employees and criminals and considers some of the steps that business can take to combat this threat. In September 2008 Ian Brown co-authored an article about mortgage fraud which was published in Accountancy Magazine's September issue. Called 'Rocking the Foundations' this article explores the nature, possible size and harm caused by mortgage fraud and identifies a number of red flags for lenders and other professionals to be aware of.
Also in September 2008 Ian authored an article commenting on enforcement action the FSA had taken against a hedge fund manager for using inside information to trade in corporate bonds. This article was published in the online publication Hedge Funds Review.
In May 2008 Ian authored an article looking at employee fraud which was published in Accountancy Age. This article set out a number of tips that finance directors may wish to consider in the fight against employee fraud.
